The Design Stages
We follow the South African Institute of Architects’ (SAIA) design stages. Here is a brief outline of what each stage entails.
Stage 1: Inception
This initial stage involves defining the project’s purpose, objectives, and feasibility. It’s crucial for our clients to communicate their vision and goals clearly to us to ensure a successful project outcome.
Stage 2: Concept and Viability
During this stage we develop conceptual designs that align with the project’s goals, budget, and timeline. This stage allows clients to review and approve the design concept before further development.
Stage 3: Design Development
We create detailed architectural plans and specifications, considering factors such as aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. We encourage our clients to participate in the design decisions to ensure that the project reflects their vision. In Stage 3, Veld Architects extends an exciting opportunity to our clients – the chance to immerse themselves in their design through Virtual Reality. With the use of our advanced VR headset, clients can step into a fully-realized 3D representation of their new project, gaining a comprehensive understanding of its spatial layout and design elements. This immersive experience allows for a deeper connection with the project before it comes to fruition.
Stage 4: Documentation and Procurement
In Stage 4.1, we meticulously draft a set of drawings for submission to the council or local authorities. We co-ordinate technical documentation with other consultants, and once all the requirements are adhered to we obtain the client’s authority and submit documents for building approval.
In stage 4.2, comprehensive construction documents are prepared, which includes blueprints, specifications, and cost estimates. It is vital that clients be aware of the project’s cost implications and have a clear understanding of the procurement process.
Stage 5: Construction
At last! The construction phase begins, and we oversee the project, ensuring that it adheres to the approved plans and specifications. We take it on us to keep our clients informed about the progress and any potential deviations from the initial plan.
Stage 6: Handover and Closeout
Once construction is completed, the project is handed over to our client. A thorough inspection and quality assessment is conducted to ensure that the final product meets our client’s expectations.
