Modern Industrial Home on a Plateau

Architectural Overview

This modern industrial home showcases our contemporary approach to architecture. We understand that a home should represent the residents’ passion for outdoor living and allow them to do more of the things they love by connecting them to nature. This home embraces sweeping views of the environment in a linear design while also taking full advantage of northern light and cross ventilation. When designing we rely heavily on eco-friendly design principles in order to reduce a home’s carbon footprint.

Architect’s design philosophy and materials used

This industrial residential project was designed to be considerate to the context: cosy in the winter and cool in the summer. We did this by applying a sustainable design ethos that forms part of our philosophy. The main feature wall features herringbone facebrick and is the main access point to the spectacular northern views of the Rhenosterspruit conservancy.

Different materials interplay to create an arresting, contemporary industrial feel, insitu concrete, zincalume s-rib sheeting and laser cut pergolas add patterned textures and cast different shadows on the building envelope throughout the day.

Gillian considered all the aspects of our requirements when designing our house. From the style and design elements to our budget requirements, everything was duly delivered on. Our house is the dream house that only existed in our heads before Veld Architects brought it to life. Gillian introduced us to some very unique ideas in the design stage, which have become amazing features in our house.”
